Hello ladies and gents!
I am assuming that everyone has heard about the upcoming Oskaloosa Senior High School Class of 1999 reunion by now. (If not, let me know and I'll forward you the email) I was just wondering what everyone was thinking about doing...going, not going, having their own reunion, moving to Denmark, etc. I think it would be a lot of fun to see some people I haven't seen for
a while (and probably won't see for a while) again, but if none of you are going to be there...well, that kind of blows that idea! And if you're now living out of state, that's no excuse; I don't live in Iowa anymore either! Ok, ok, North Carolina might be a little far. But anyway, I just wanted to throw an email out there and see who was interested at all in attending the reunion. In any case, feel free to email me and/or the whole email list about what's going on with you and your undoubtedly fabulous life :-) I hope everyone is doing well!
Take care,
Anne

Hey everyone!
I agree with Anne, it would be hard to convince myself to go unless most of you were going to be there. As it stands right now, I myself am being a party pooper. Since living out of state is apparently not an excuse...:-) I'll have to go with the root problem anyway: money. Now it is still possible that I can 'find' money somewhere (especially if I can convince my parents this is a worthwhile expenditure, but I don't want to make promises based off of cash I don't have. But, if the better part of you ladies and gents are going, I'll step up the scavenging.
Love you guys!
Mark

hello everyone,
i am currently trying to get out of my responsibilities at work, so i thought maybe i could write an email. that is a good excuse not to work right?
don't know what my plans are yet for attending THE social event of the decade. i trust you all know what i'm talking about.
though i won't be moving internationally, least not yet...
aside from the whole reunion thing, how's everyone doing? i mean, i must admit, i don't keep up with people very well. (my own fault) but just wondered where all y'all were at currently. i know where dana and jeff are. but the rest of you, not so sure. so if you feel inclined or bored, drop me a line and let me know your whereabouts. in my job i might get to travel a bit, so if you are somewhere i'll be close to, i'll come egg your house.... er, i mean...bring you a may basket
well i gotta get back to work before they find me out!!!
just kidding.
take care.

I personally don't care if living too far is not a valid excuse, that's what I'm using. North Carolina is too far to come, especially on such sort notice. My nostalgia for high school hasn't reached a level that I'm going to pack up and head out on a whim to go eat Hy-Vee catering and hang out at a local bar...
I can't speak for everyone, but I know I'd have more fun meeting up with everyone on our own terms and in our own time. Remember the so-called class picnic our senior year? Just about everyone that will be getting this email ended up at a separate shelter then the rest of the class, completely avoiding the fray. I can see the reunion being a complete deja vu, so why not just do our own thing?
So that's my two-cents worth.
Ciao!
Dana
I think that a five year reunion is a joke. I've kept up with pretty much everyone that I wanted to, and was successful at avoiding those I didn't. So if you guys wanted to organize something separate, I would be all for it. I live in Omaha, so the drive isn't that bad. However, I work quite a few weekends (until pharmacy school starts), so I'm not sure that I could make it anyway.
So it sounds like no one from this e-mail list will be there. Do you think anyone but the organizers will be there??
Teresa
moving to denmark? that's crazy. I'm moving to ireland at the end of august, so that's my plan. i won't be around the weekend of the reunion, even though I do reside in Osky for the summer, thanks to the parents. But if people mosey into osky before aug. 28 email me and we'll have to get together.
take care,
Jeff
Hey all,
I will also not be in town for the reunion. I've got other plans. I think the idea is good, but a reunion this soon almost seems pointless. I'm not living far away (Des Moines) so the drive is no excuse, but I'm
just up for it yet. I'd rather wait another 5 years and go back to that tiny, crappy little town...
I hope you're all doing well. Anne's in NC, Jeff's in Osky, Teresa - Omaha, what about everyone else? I'm not even sure who all is on this little email list. Unlike Teresa, I didn't keep up with people as well as I would have liked.
Oh, by the way, Dana, I stayed down at the water fight during the senior picnic, because I was amused by what was going on.

Hey Everyone!
It was really cool to get into my email and get seven messages from people I want to hear from. Not that I don’t like the porn and mortgage ads I get but… As for The social event of the season, they really didn’t give us much time to get our extreme makeoversJ. I have not decided what I will be doing that weekend yet but knowing what you all are doing helps a lot. Unfortunately, I don’t have the excuse of being out of state, as I have now chosen to become a long term Iowan by moving to Cedar Rapids (at least until Cargill moves me), so I may decide to show up. Anyway, I would be all for getting together some other time with all of you guys if someone wanted to try to organize something (cough, Anne, cough). Well have to get running, but it was awesome to hear from you all.
Take care,
Michelle
moving to denmark... ireland... who would want to leave the great hawkeye
state?? i currently reside very near teresa in the huge metropolis of
Harlan, Ia. I've only been here for about a month. i work for a company that
manufactures Pellet mill and Hammer mill parts. if you don't know what those
are, don't worry, they are not that impressive (to the average person).
otherwise, if you do know, then i can hook you up if you need something!!
i would be up for maybe a little get together of some sort. it wouldn't even
have to be in Oskaloosa. Remeber that i had an additional three
years after most of you left added onto my "sentence" in that town.
well my hand is starting to cramp up after such a long email, so i should
get to work.

hey guys,
good to hear from all of you....the way i see it,
we've almost had our little "reunion" time right here
online....why waste $8 on hy-vee catering?
i thought i'd put my excuse into the hat...i'm not
going because i don't want to. it's not that i don't
want to see all of you (like teresa et. al. said, a
smaller reunion with you guys would be a lot better
than an entire class reunion at this point in my
life). i'm all for getting together somewhere else at
some other time, though...probably the most central
area would be des moines, although that still leaves a
few people really far away. as far as timing, the
rest of the summer will be difficult for me
personally, but i'd be willing to try to work
something out if someone makes definite plans.
and now the update on my life... i'm graduating with
my masters august 6 and then making my way to
winterset, ia, where i will be teaching high school
spanish this fall. coincidentally, lisa wilson will
be joining me there, so we'll be building our very own
(very burrow-esque) department. i'm really excited to
finally get out of kirksville and get my real life
started.
anyway, it's been great hearing from all of you! i
hope we can work something out to get together
soon....or if not, i promise to work up a little more
enthusiasm for our 10-year reunion.
have a great day!
later,
rebecca

Aw geez guys, if we don't go to the reunion we can't catch up with high school favorites such as Paul Ryan. I don't know, maybe I WILL go now.
Just kidding, Paul and I get together for heart to hearts all of the time.
yet again, i am kidding.
anyway take care
jeff
Just curious, do y'all really keep up with many others outside this list? I feel like a bad OHS "alum"... lol

Hey everyone again,
Since this mass email thing is actually working as our online reunion, I wanted to update you as to my new address and phone number. My wife and I moved back on campus this month since my scholarship has started up again. Not exactly beautiful apartments, but the price is right. Anyhow, the new address is:
1175 W. Leroy Pond #223
Fayetteville AR 72701
We also have the whole cell phone thing working for us so our numbers our 479-236-2414 (us, but mainly her) and 479-236-7657 (us, but mainly me). So feel free to give me a call or send stuff or just delete this infomation depending on your prefrence.:-)
I think having a small get together would be great. Des Moines does sound like a reasonable place, but I think if we are serious about doing it, then we need to set the date a few months down the line.... like going out to dinner the Saturday after Thanksgiving. That might be in the too distant future for actual planning, or we all might actually be in and around Osky with the families, so we just might meet there instead, but it's something to think on.
Anyhow I have to pretend like I work in this class, so I better get off the email. Oh! If any of you (Jeff) want to play Axis and Allies, come stop down here this coming Monday night.:-)
Take care,
Mark
wow,
I think that this e-mail gadget thing is so cool. I'm glad i finally got a computer last month. hearing everyone at school talking about this thing called "internet"... fascinating!
no just kidding, but i am suprised by the response from everyone on this list. so kudos to whoever came up with the idea to single each of us "geeks" out!
meeting up for a nice supper or lunch would be a great thing i think. that way you don't have to spend an entire day with the likes of me. (jeff, you know what i mean!!) But it should be someplace NICE: breadeaux, radio grill, bonanza, Take your pick. oh wait, the radio grill is closed, the whole super-wal-mart thing. But that leaves a couple still.
well gotta get to work. thanks again!
Robert Knox
Hey everyone!
Yes, this is the most action my inbox has seen for quite a while...it's sort of nice though I know it won't last. I won't be heading to the reunion either. I have a conflict the day the reunion is on but otherwise I might have gone but who knows. Eight dollars is a lot for Hy-Vee catering.
I am currently working at a summer internship in Des Moines at Terracon, a geotechnical and environmental engineering and construction materials testing company. I get to go out to construction sites and hang out with the Mexicans and white foreman...well most of the workers are Mexican but not all. I haven't picked up the construction workers language either. It's a mix between English and four letter words. I'll be going back to school here shortly.
Meeting up with you guys sometime would be fun. I think Mark had a good idea about Thanksgiving or something like that. Des Moines is pretty central; so is Ames for that matter. Anyway keep me posted on developments.
Did you know that Paul Ryan has a bachelor's degree in accounting from the University of Iowa? Well I need to be getting to bed. I have to be in Albia at 7:30 tomorrow morning for soil testing. That means a very early morning for me. I guess that leaves Lisa as the only one who hasn't responded. She should be feeling some pretty huge peer pressure right about now.
Best...
Jake
hello,
well, only a week left before the big event! right? i still haven't convinced myself that i want to drive all that way. i plan on having a heart-attack and emergency triple by-pass surgery this weekend anyway. so it's not like i have nothing planned. anyway.
i had a really good idear the other day, but for the life of me i can't remember it. typical huh? when it comes back to me, i'll let y'all know.
well, better get back to work. take care, stay cool, supposed to get warm today. (here it is anyway.)
later,
Robert Knox
Okay, I have a question for someone who is better at channeling Miss Manners than I am: Do you RSVP a no? Or do you, as I have, just ignore our former classmates that are attempting to hold on to their glory days of high school? I know I'm not going, being that it is mere days away and I have yet to buy a plane ticket to not be able to eat my $8 worth of Hy-Vee catering, but doesn't RSVP stand for "please respond" in French and therefore require either a yes or a no rather than a yes or nothing??
To you future school teachers out there, please ignore my rambling if not run-on sentence, though it it nothing in comparison to I have seen by Robert Knox or in German literature. Jene verrückten Deutschen. (Oh, and speaking of crazy people of German descent, Philipp Kratz is doing fine...in med school.)
Moving on. What is everyone up to? Here's what I know. Or in some cases think I know, but could be way off base:
Robert is married and working in western IA; Jake is at Iowa State; Anne is working for UPS in MN; Lisa is a pastor's wife and has a new baby (congrats, by the way); Mark is married and apparently back in school in Arkansas; Michelle is in Cedar Rapids (or that area) with Cargill; Rebecca is teaching in the DSM metro-ish area (how's that for a cop-out); Jeff is haning with his parents until he can skip the country and singing karoke with my sister's boyfriend in Newton in the meantime (HA!); Jay Collman is doing something, somewhere and he shared what that something and somewhere is, but I can't for the life of me remember (sorry); Teresa is married and headed to grad school in Omaha; Chad is in DSM(?) and that's that. Was I too far off? Oh, and I suppose I owe you all the one sentence update: I am married and living in North Carolina working as a freelance photographer. Ta da!
I leave you with one more thing to ponder: As the official Secretary/Treasurer of the (insert adjective of your personal preference here) Class of 1999, shouldn't our very own Mark Sandor technically be involved in the planning and execution of all official reunion-type functions??
Dana
Lisa has a baby?!?!?!?!
(Oh, and I think you're right about the RSVP thing. The only other version I've seen is RSVP, Regrets only. So, you're screwed either way. However, I
have not responded at all, either.)
-Anne
Well thanks everyone, for responding so heartily to my email! I was very surprised to see so many responses after only 1.5 days time—especially from the ever-elusive Mark Sandor. It sounds like the general consensus from this group is not to attend the reunion. Fair enough. I totally understand the reasons given (good job of not using distance as an excuse); I only feel bad for the coordinators… With a large chunk of their invitation recipients voting a loud “no” (this group) and an astronomical amount of people on the “not able to contact list”, I can’t imagine who WILL actually be there (except the wonderful Jay Collman). I only hope it doesn’t put a damper on things for the future, i.e. the 10 year reunion, as it sounds like more people would be interested in attending that. But that’s eons from now…who knows, we might all be living in Denmark by then :)
On the up side, I was very pleased to hear that people are interested in getting together at some point. I would be up for some sort of gathering in the near future, as well. I haven’t spent a lot of time thinking about it, but I think this group could come up with some interesting ideas for things to do and a place to meet. I’m with Robert, it doesn’t have to be in Osky; in fact, it would be better if it wasn’t. So, what the hey, start throwing out ideas, and timeframes if applicable. My schedule is pretty open, no pharmacy school or trips to Ireland in my near future. Just as an update, I’m living in the Twin Cities working for UPS as an Industrial Engineer. I’m currently finishing up my first year of a 2 year, rotational, management trainee program working with different package centers; mostly in smaller, outlying towns around the state. Anyone up for getting together in Bemidji?!? J Work is going well—I’m enjoying what I do so far—and that keeps me pretty occupied. Sadly, nothing much else exciting is going on with me. But if anyone will be in the area, let me know. The Twin Cities are great…lots of stuff to do….and now we have our own IKEA store (that’s the deal maker, I’m sure)!!
So, let’s hear some ideas…
Anne
