hmmmm, i'll try to make this absolutely as nice as i possibly can. i was in osky friday night for the pella game (we WON! both freshmen and varsity!) and my parents showed me the extremely biased newspaper article about her. jennifer swanson wrote 2 articles that day: the huge headline at the top of the page was "van hooser wants to get involved, again" or something like that, and then underneath in much smaller print was the article "meinert looking for re-election." color photo of ms. van, black and white of dave meinert. anyway, i was very much in favor of dave meinert when he ran a few years ago, and i have not changed my position. i think he's been a great board president and has had to deal with some tough issues (what with the addition to the hs and the new elementary school)... i heard from a friend of my grandma who talked to ms. van about it that she lost 170 pounds from the gastric bypass surgery (although they didn't mention the surgery in the paper - interesting...) the article did say something about her losing a ton of weight and feeling like "a whole new person"... let's just say that she better be or she has no business making any decision that will affect the lives of the children of oskaloosa. if you guys want to read a portion of the article, see this link: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=12891880&BRD=1623&PAG=461&dept_id=180612&rfi=8 and the one about dave meinert is: http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?newsid=12891875&BRD=1623&PAG=461&dept_id=180612&rfi=8. they didn't include the whole article (or the picture of either of them) so you'll have to find a copy of the paper from sept. 9 if you have a burning desire to see it. i personally don't have a copy because i burned it as soon as i was done. :) just kidding, but i did throw it away promptly. other comments???
I read the Ms. Van quasi-article...side note- Is the Herald lacking in subscriptions so much that they can't post the whole thing??
After reading it, my first question is, why is Jennifer Swanson a Ms. Van advocate? Maybe it's just a good news story... I didn't really know the details of Ms. Van's de-thronement; apparently they called it medical leave. But wouldn't medical leave suggest that the person would come back? Ok, so I'm asking really dumb questions here. Back to the main topic...
I think the city of Oskaloosa would be crazy to vote her onto the school board. ESPECIALLY if she's running against Dave Meinert. But I suppose not everyone in town knows what she was like and why she was let go. And maybe she really is a different person...hopefully happier at least.
An interesting comment: "If I was that vindictive, I would have run a long time ago". That makes me think she thought about it a 'long time ago'...
I almost had a heart attack when I read this, but thank goodness that she lost. I hope it was a landslide. I know she had some nerve, but I think trying to do this is a whole other level...maybe somebody should check her into a mental institution.
I know, that's not very nice of me at all. Time for a compliment to make up for it....(crickets, crickets)
