Boy, can I effectively kill a conversation!

Okay, so I didn't want or expect pity ("oh the poor poor girl has moved to a place where they get one single, solitary HALF A DAY of snow and she whines about it..." OR "stop bitching," etc.) but I also didn't expect to stop all conversation in this little forum of ours completely.

Missing the Midwest: The First Snow

In general, I'm not finding Southern Living to be all it's cracked up to be, and no, I don't mean the magazine. It is a magazine title, right?

Anyway, the latest and greatest adventures as a misplaced Midwesterner is this crazy little thing called snow we got today. I don't even feel right calling it snow. It's flurries at best. But it's been cold enough and there was enough to stick, so absolute chaos ensued.

Schools sent kids home early and have delays or cancellations. Businesses closed and are planning on opening late tomorrow. Roads were a little bit slick, but only a problem if you were driving stupid: breaking to hard, being too heavy on the accelerator, etc., you know the deal. However, most of my fellow drivers decided to take it easy; to err on the side of caution. The drove all of five miles per hour.

As the day wore on, the snow stopped by 3 pm, and this apparently gave some people more confidence, which lead to light poles, phone poles and even cell towers being taken out by drivers who over estimated their driving skills and/or the concept of 4-wheel drive.

There's more snow in the forecast for this weekend. I wonder if they're going to call out the National Guard...

Tommy Lee

I just read that Tommy Lee has a new reality series coming out this year about him starting college....at the University of Nebraska! Any local news about that, Teresa??

Here's Elwood in our snowstorm - my dogs were much happier about it than I was! Working at a hospital and being "essential personell" pretty much eliminates the snow day possibility, so snow storms have lost much of their appeal! Posted by Hello
